This year’s National Day Parade is not just about what we are celebrating, but also who and why. Our theme “Building our Singapore of Tomorrow” is a call to action for Singaporeans to unite to build our future.

Tomorrow’s Here Today has its lyrics and music written by Don Richmond, and is performed by 53A, the second local band, after Electrico, to perform a National Day song.

53A features vocalist Sara Wee, lead guitarist Alvin Khoo, bassist/lead vocalist Bani Hidir, drummer Helman Kamal, keyboardist Nazaruddin Mashruddin and percussionist Serena Chen. They are a dynamic crew of talented and versatile performers from diverse backgrounds, but all of whom are established in the local ‘live’ music scene. Their music influences include John Mayer, The Beatles, Foo Fighters and The Click Five, and their music cover a variety of genres — jazz, pop, rock, punk and alternative. 53A, the unit number of a Haji Lane shop attic where these youngsters bonded over jamming sessions, eventually became the name of the band. They have injected the distinct 53A charm into their music and debuted their first original album, ‘Settle the Kettle’ in 2010, and received positive reviews in TODAY, The Business Times and TIME magazine.

We have many musically talented people who have made a name for themselves beyond Singapore (think JJ Lin, Stefanie Sun, A-Do, Corrinne May, Dick Lee, to name a few), and this is a fantastic opportunity to feel proud and patriotic.
