Exclusive Interview with Flowers By Sadha
Valentine’s Day is just around the corner again this year, after Chinese New Year. A common legend states that St. Valentine, a Christian martyr, defied the emperor’s orders and secretly married couples to spare the husbands from war. It is probably for this reason that this patron saint’s feast day is associated with love.
Over time, 14 February became a day lovers express their affection with greetings and gifts. But it does not always have to be a day of routine! Shake things up this year by doing things together as a couple. Try these #CoupleGoals ideas:

4) Learn a new hobby. Perhaps you know your partner loves flowers, or you both have just got your new place together and would like to spruce it up. You can learn something meaningful like floral arrangement.
I am very glad to have had the opportunity to interview the very genuine and witty Sadha of Flowers By Sadha, to find out more about what goes into a floral arrangement (email interview has been edited for clarity and continuity):
Who/What inspired you to set up Flowers By Sadha?
I’ve always been interested in Art & Craft since my younger days. My Dad runs his own business. Tagging along and helping my Dad inspired me to follow in his footsteps and be my own boss. After much thinking, it came down to either food or flowers to fuel my passion for creativity.
I can actually cook decent meals; who knows, maybe one day, Meals By Sadha?
What is your most popular floral arrangement?
Most of our arrangements are unique to our customers. This is because we provide customisation based on your preference of flowers / colours / design / budget, and almost anything else you can think of. If you have something you like, a picture of an arrangement for example, we can even try and recreate that for you!
Our colourful Mixed Flower Bouquets are a big hit with the ladies as we have been customising them a lot recently.
What is the story for your Valentine’s Day Bouquet?
Well, it’s a known fact that prices of flowers skyrocket during peak periods, especially during Valentine’s Day. And it’s just so expensive you can cry!

What was your most memorable experience?
Being able to do up flowers for the Miss Universe Singapore Pageant 2017! And subsequently the Miss Universe Singapore Pageant 2018 as well last year.
How do you work with wedding couples to design their wedding flowers?
Everyone knows anything to do with weddings can be quite expensive. And so one of my main goals was to make wedding flowers affordable.
I do this by keeping prices almost the same all year round and by allowing the couples to customise their very own package based on their budget. They can get to choose what they want and how many they want. Total freedom!
How do you take care of the flowers you have received in a bouquet?
You can either let them dry out and keep them for memory’s sake, or place them in some water and keep them alive for a few more days.
However, not all flowers will dry out well; some will just wither and some will just decompose. So, find out if the flowers you have can dry out well. If yes, then you would want to hang the bouquet upside down in a dry place until it is fully dried out.
If you wish to keep them alive, you would need to remove the bouquet wrappings and cut the stem, at least 2 cm off the base at an angle and put them in a vase with water. Keep repeating this every day until it no longer looks good.
What would you like to say to aspiring florists?
Charge fairly and put in your best for every arrangement. If you don’t like what you’ve created, chances are that your customers are not gonna like it either.
