Blooming Bellies – The Keys to the Tummy
I was thinking about a fun dish to make in relation to our topic on the piano, when over my Japanese feast one day, I thought, “Hey, I could make my sushi look like a piano!” The vinegarish white rice would be the white keys, then the seaweed would be the black keys. It’s so simple and straight forward, and a great bonding activity to do with your children; after piano lesson! Here’s what you need to do:
The Pianist’s Keys to the Tummy Makes an 8-piece sushi roll Ingredients:
A bowl of cooked sushi rice Seaweed (cut into 1cm thin strips) Cling wrap
Method: 1. Lay the cling wrap on the table. 2. Place the strips of seaweed on the cling wrap, following the pattern of the black keys of a piano. 3. Place the sushi rice on top of the seaweed. 4. Use the cling wrap to roll and shape the sushi roll. 5. Plate it, and then dig in!
You can even try adding egg mayo/tuna/your favourite sushi filling on top of the rice (at step 3) before rolling it up, for extra flavour! Or you can just savour the sweet sushi rice with other famed Japanese dishes such as teriyaki chicken or grilled eel!
